Creek Bottom Counterparts
White-tailed Deer, 36" x 24" Oil on Canvas
2015 National Wild Turkey Federation's Banquet Art Program
I grew up in the Midwest along the Mississippi River. The large ag fields, ditches, river bluffs and bottoms made for prime white-tailed deer habitat. The large river and creek bottoms were especially attractive to white-tails for the cover they provided. This buck has locked up with a doe in a CRP-filled creek bottom during the peak of the rut. He's isolated her from the throngs of cruising bucks, and by his posture and alertness, it appears he has a challenger to deal with on the horizon.
